Back on the road again, we left Galle Fort at 6:00 pm and arrived in Colombo at 8:30 pm, approximately 130 km, and we covered in about 2.5 hours. Koshala, my guide from Genuine Srilankans, drove me around in Sri Lanka for the last 3 days. By now, he is well aware of my interest. So, he did not spend much time thinking; instead, he decided to show me the faces of Colombo at night. I had plenty of time before my flight departed from Colombo airport at 2:00 am for Bangkok.

We drove by the beautifully illuminated Lotus Theater Complex and couldn’t miss the Exhibition & Convention center; some kind of event was happening.

Perfect timing for me as Colombo traffic has already died down, but still plenty of activities happening all over the city. I saw people still jogging around Independence Memorial Hall, Arcade Independence Square was busy with enthusiastic shoppers, and Galle Face Green could not be more vibrant.

Tour The Independence Memorial Hall

Independence Memorial is a beautiful stone building surrounded by gardens located at Colombo 7. This hall is based on the architecture of the Audience Hall (ague Maduwa) located in Kandy. The column and pilers are decorated with traditional Sri Lankan designs, and statues of lions are placed around the building. This is a great place to visit during the evening for a peaceful walk and understand Sri Lankan history.

Visit Galle Face Green

At night it was not clear to me how beautiful the beach was, but the long stretch of green lawn next to the beach was definitely a perfect peaceful place to be in the evening—walking down the promenade along the beach when evening air blowing was relaxing. There were also a lot of food vendors around the area, selling street foods, especially those items that are specialty snacks for the locals.

Looking at that colorful food, I was tempted to try some spicy shrimp patties, Kebabs (meat on a stick), but I just gave up the idea due to my sensitive stomach condition.
