Take a stroll along the Long Corridor, adorned with vibrant paintings, and marvel at the iconic Marble Boat floating on Kunming Lake. How to get there

I found it quite challenging to hail a taxi in Beijing. Firstly, they often refuse to use the meter, and secondly, it can be difficult to find a taxi willing to go in the direction you desire. Given my frustrating experiences with the taxi system, I opted to use public transportation for my visit to the Summer Palace.

Following my plan, I walked about 4 minutes from the Redwall Hotel to the nearest bus stop. I boarded bus #111, which took approximately 20 minutes (6 stops), and then I got off at Ping’anli station to transfer to subway line 4, heading towards Anheqiao North. After a journey of about 27 minutes (12 stops), I alighted at Beigongmen station. From there, I exited at D and walked for approximately 8-9 minutes to reach the North Gate of the Summer Palace. I am confident that you will feel accomplished and satisfied once you successfully navigate your way using maps and signs.

Entry Fee

I purchased my entrance ticket for RMB 30 and rented an audio guide. Despite the early hour, the place was already bustling with activity. School field trips, group tours, and a mix of both locals and foreign tourists filled the area.Exploring the vast expanse of the Summer Palace requires a good amount of walking, making sturdy legs and comfortable shoes a necessity. Considering the hot and humid weather during the summer, it is advisable to dress appropriately for maximum comfort.
