From Delhi, India, to visit the historic Taj Mahal in Agra is nearly 200 km, so I decided to do something different this time instead of taking the train planned to go by road. After all, a new Yamuna Expressway highway was built since the last time I traveled. I am traveling solo this time, so I have plenty of time to pay attention to details and take pictures without worrying about annoying others. I rented a car with a driver for three days and two nights. The plan was to stay overnight at Agra, then another night at Jaipur, and head back to New Delhi on the third day.
Tomb of I’timād-ud-Daulah
My journey started at 8:00 in the morning from New Delhi. Luckily got out of the city before the morning rush hour. The toll expressway was not crowded, so it did not take more than 3 hours to reach historical Agra.
Visit Agra Fort
Yes, Agra is the home to the Taj Mahal. Can you believe I am there visiting one of the most famous and visited places in all of India? This is a popular day trip destination from Delhi so expect crowd during weekend and holidays.
I was staying overnight there, so I had all the time in the world to spend, and obviously did most of the touristy things (I didn’t manage to get off the beaten path so much like I usually do); it was a good amount of time to see some genuinely breathtaking historical attractions.
The Taj Mahal
One of the Seven Wonders of the World. The Taj Mahal, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, and its majestic beauty lived up to every bit of my expectations and even surpassed a few. The smoothness and precision of the marble bricks, the minakari on the marble slabs, and the symmetry offer different perspectives to view this mausoleum. Moreover, the beauty of the memorial of love is even more enhanced during dawn and dusk.
Mughal Architecture is undeniably something to be proud of. However, Agra’s history has more than just the Taj Mahal. The charm of the city extends not just to the numerous monuments and the Agra Fort in the city but can be seen in every alley and household in Agra. Agra also houses two other UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri. During the Agra trip people usually add Jaipur to their Itinerary.

DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, Agra, is 4.3 mi from Agra Cantonment Railway Station and 8.7 mi from Agra Airport. The Taj Mahal is 2.5 mi from the hotel, while Agra Fort is less than 3.1 mi away. In addition, Sadar Bazaar is over 3.1 mi from the hotel, and Akbar’s Tomb is about 11 miles away. The hotel has Kebab-e-que, an Indian specialty restaurant with live cooking stations and a special tandoori kitchen. Other options include North 27, the all-day dining restaurant; Plush Bar, the 24-hour lounge bar and Food Store, the all-day cafe.
